Long before there was Martha Stewart, there was Candace Wheeler. Published originally in 1903, this book was the culmination of a long career as one of America's most listened to home decorating advisors. In it Wheeler wrote: "There is no influence to potent in life as harmonious surroundings and to create and possess a home which is harmonious in a simple and inexpensive way is the privilege of all but the wretchedly poor." Principles of Home Decoration became a standard text for home decorating.
